Old-Time, All the Time

Paul and MarshaWe love old time music and we love banjos -- to play them, listen to them, look at them, talk about them!  In 2004 we formed Friends of Old Time Banjo (FOB) to create opportunities to play old time music in a low-key, supportive setting where we could grow as old time banjo players.  As we gained experience we began to welcome players of other old time instruments to our 3rd Sunday Old Time Music Jam which we run in and around the metropolitan Washington, DC area, including Northern Virginia and Maryland.  As the original FOBers gained experience and the jam became faster, several members saw a need for an old time practice session for newer members of our old time community. In 2007, two of them stepped up to the plate and created the 2nd Sunday Beginners Jam in Alexandria, Virginia. Most recently, some of our more far-flung members wanted an old time  jam a little closer to home and so two new regular jams were born: the Friends of Old Time Annapolis (FOTA) Jam in Annapolis, MD area and the FOB~West Jam in the Washington, VA area.   In between jams FOB occasionally sponsors old time banjo and fiddle workshops and we do our best to keep each other informed about other concerts, festivals and other old time music events.
