August 21, 2005
This month, Jacalyn hosted FOB Sunday. Ruth, Leslie, Paul, Barbara,
Jill, Jane, Rosemarie, Marsha, Bill, Tom were there and Jacalyn and
her husband, Rick, made us most comfortable in their beautiful home in the
Moyaone Reserve near
the Piscataway National
Park. Jacalyn prepared lots of goodies and we played music
sitting in front of an enormous picture window overlooking their pond
complete with a waterfall. We were charmed by the steady stream of
hummingbirds visiting feeding stations strategically located near the
window. To top the day off we happily welcomed two new friends to FOB
Sunday -- fiddle player, Tom and banjo/fiddle player, Bill.
After the jam ended Jacalyn and Rick guided the last few stragglers on an
early evening walk in the National Park. It was a gorgeous evening.
We walked on a boardwalk over marshland, and as Jacalyn and Rick spoke of
the history of this beautiful spot, which is in sight of Mount Vernon on the
Virginia side of the Potomac, we saw wild flowers, birds and dragonflies.
We ended up in a ceremonial field of the
Piscataway Nation
where we paid our respects at the gravesite of Chief Turkey Tyack.
