North River Mills is a tiny village in Hampshire County, West Virgina.
It sits along State Road 15 and on both sides of the Cacapon River.
It is the home to
Ice Mountain, where an unusual geologic process results in a natural
refrigeration effect causing cold air to flow, throughout the year, out of
60 small holes and openings at the base of a rock talus. Each year
the citizens celebrate the town and the natural beauty of the area through
North River Mills Day (Click here to see more pictures at the town site).
This year, thanks to Wilmer, several of us got the golden opportunity to
participate in the traditional porch jam. To make an already perfect
day even better, after the jam, some of us headed over to Laura's
river place to enjoy an early evening Critton Hollow Stringband concert
and picnic.
